The LSAT is purposefully designed to assess the skills required for the first year of law school. These skills include reading comprehension, reasoning, and writing. LSAT scores fall in a range between 120 to 180, with the median score being approximately 152. A median score, however, will not be enough to secure acceptance to a top-tier law school, and competitive scores generally fall in the 160s to 170s. The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) is the organization responsible for the administration of the LSAT, and they regularly track and report statistical information about those who take the test, analyzing their information as a whole while also dividing test-takers into subgroups. According to the LSAC, among the most respected law schools, successful applicants have an LSAT score in the 170s. In order to be competitive for the highest-ranking law schools, it is necessary to do well on the LSAT. Here at Manhattan Review, we can help you master all sections of the test, improving your reading comprehension and reasoning abilities while also strengthening your critical writing skills.

Meet a Chapel Hill LSAT Tutor: Nikki P.
Nikki P. was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where her father was a professor at a noted law school and her mother was an attorney in private practice. "My parents never pressured me to follow in their footsteps," Nikki shares, "but I came by it naturally…I loved growing up discussing things like justice, ethics, and closing arguments around the dinner table. Watching my parents work so hard to make the world a better place made me want to do something important with my life, too." Nikki grew up surrounded by a large extended family, and from an early age, she found herself especially interested in the undertakings of her more entrepreneurial family members. "They were always tinkering and making things and trying to make things that already worked work even better. Even as a kid I remember being concerned about how their ideas—their creations—were being protected." Raised with a strong sense of fairness, Nikki was an active member in her student government, holding various officer positions, as well as being the parliamentarian in her debate club and being an enthusiastic participant in her local Girl Scouts chapter. Nikki grew up planning on attending college, and she took preparing her application very seriously, spending many hours after school and on weekends taking advantage of the ACT prep services her high school offered. Nikki did very well on the ACT and while she was accepted to all of her top college choices, she ultimately chose to attend Rice University.
At Rice, Nikki majored in pre-law with a minor in psychology, and she knew she wanted to attend the best law school she possibly could after graduation. She planned to specialize in intellectual property, protecting the ideas of creative and passionate inventors like her family members, but as someone who did best with a significant amount of test preparation, she knew obtaining a high LSAT score wouldn't be easy. "Luckily, I was able to take a group prep course that helped me prepare for the exam," says Nikki, "and even though I thought I might go crazy from taking so many practice exams and answering so many logical reasoning questions, on the day of my actual test, I was calm and prepared and that was reflected in my score." Her impressively high score earned her offers of admission from leading law programs across the United States, and Nikki opted to attend the University of Texas at Austin, a law school recognized around the world for the quality of its students and graduates. After graduating, Nikki was offered a position in a firm near Chapel Hill, and while she was nervous about relocating, she was also excited to live someplace new.
In her new position, Nikki worked with leading biotech companies in the Research Triangle area on issues such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. She also began serving as an adjunct faculty member at a well-known local law school, a position she greatly enjoyed. After a few years of balancing legal work and teaching, Nikki realized just how much she loved working with students and sought a way to work with them earlier in their careers, helping them to prepare for the LSAT. When she learned of an opening for an LSAT tutor at the Chapel Hill office of Manhattan Review, she immediately reached out and submitted her resume, eager to be involved with private tutoring, teaching group classes, or providing intensive weekend LSAT workshops. Nikki was quickly welcomed to the team, and she began offering evening and weekend courses, eventually moving to a parttime consulting position within her firm that allowed her to focus more of her time on preparing the next generation of lawyers. Nikki's courses fill up almost as fast as they are announced, and there is regularly a wait list to work with her. Her students appreciate her patience, as well as her thoroughness and her supportive approach to teaching. When she isn't protecting intellectual property or guiding students to their own LSAT success, Nikki can be found taking her son to the neighborhood park for regular play dates, searching for the best local bar-be-que with friends, and cheering on the Tar Heels with her sports-loving husband.
