Many students enjoy learning in classroom-style group courses, finding others' questions and comments insightful and inspiring. Other students, however, know that they do not perform to their full capabilities when attempting to learn in the company of others. These students may worry about holding the group back or slowing them down; alternatively, they may experience frustration or boredom when they have mastered a particular concept but are unable to move on to a new topic until everyone in the group has demonstrated similar mastery. If you know you learn best through a customized learning plan and one-on-one instruction, we invite you to consider working with one of our world-class private tutors. Now, more than ever, a high GMAT score is incredibly important, and the highest scores unquestionably open doors for students and professionals looking to take their success to the next level. The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the organization responsible for the administration of the GMAT, tracks and reports statistical information about test-takers, studying them as a whole while also dividing them into subgroups. Total GMAT scores range from 200 to 800, and roughly two-thirds of test-takers will score between 400 and 600. According to the available statistics, the mean GMAT total score for all test-takers is 574. Top business programs around the world require very high GMAT scores. For example, the University of Texas at Austin, repeatedly ranked as one of the best business schools in the world, regularly has an incoming first-year class with average GMAT scores falling in the range of 650-740. When preparing your application to the business program of your dreams, make sure you stand out from the competition with application materials that shine.

Meet a Chapel Hill GMAT Tutor: Greyson W.

Greyson W. grew up in Washington, DC, and dreamed of one day moving far away to attend college. "Don't get me wrong," he clarifies, "there were a lot of things I loved about DC, but after living there my entire life, I was ready for a change, and I was determined to go to college somewhere on the West Coast." Greyson's parents told him not to be so quick to discount things simply because they were familiar, but as long as Greyson was getting an education, they were open to him attending college wherever he chose. Greyson worked incredibly hard during high school, taking honors courses and completing extra credit projects while being an active participant in student government and a math-focused extracurricular club while competing in varsity track. Greyson obtained an impressive score on his SAT and combined with his high school accomplishments, he was accepted to numerous colleges and universities across the United States. Greyson ultimately decided to attend the University of California at Berkeley, obtaining an undergraduate degree in business administration.

Greyson knew he wanted to obtain an MBA, and he also knew he would "need all the help I could get to be accepted to a leading business program." Greyson worked with a private tutor at the Berkeley office of Manhattan Review to prepare for the GMAT, and he credits his tutor for helping him master not only test-related content, but also his test-related anxiety. "I've always hated tests," he admits, "but my tutor assured me the GMAT could be mastered, and it turns out she was right." Greyson diligently followed the customized study program his tutor created for him, and his focus was rewarded when he scored in the 98th percentile on the GMAT, receiving countless offers of admission, as well as generous financial aid packages, to leading MBA programs. To everyone's surprise, including his own, Greyson found that he missed the East Coast and being near his family, and he ultimately chose to attend graduate school at the University of Virginia. After graduating, Greyson accepted a position with a global company headquartered in Chapel Hill that allowed him to regularly travel all around the world, and while he initially enjoyed this lifestyle, after a while he began to think of being at home more than just one or two weekends a month.

Greyson chose to settle in Chapel Hill and switched to a position that didn't involve travel; while he enjoyed the chance to be home more, he missed meeting and connecting with new people. He accepted a mentorship position in his company and was surprised to discover that people enjoyed learning from him, appreciating him patience, his real-world experiences, and his ability to translate those experiences into valuable lessons. Greyson joined the team at Manhattan Review soon after and provides private tutoring to students preparing for the GMAT. "You really don't have to be brilliant to do well on the GMAT," he shares. "You have to be willing to study and work hard, but you don't need to be a natural test-taker. I love teaching students the methods they need to succeed on a test and watching them achieve their own success." When he isn't helping future business leaders obtain impressive GMAT scores, Greyson can be found biking to his favorite local bookstore, enjoying weekend picnics along Bolin Creek Trail, and attending tailgate parties before college sporting events.
