When it comes to mastering complex material, many students enjoy learning in classroom-style groups, finding others' questions and comments insightful and even inspiring. Other students, however, know that they do not perform to their full potential in a group setting. These students might find themselves distracted by others or overcome with worrying about working too slowly, holding the group back, or significantly slowing down the pace of learning. Alternatively, these students might find themselves bored and frustrated attempting to learn complex material in a group setting, particularly when they have mastered a certain concept but cannot move on to something new until the rest of the group has demonstrated similar progress. If you know you learn best through customized instruction that allows you to work at your own pace, we invite you to contact us at Manhattan Review and learn more about our private tutoring options.

The GRE General Test is designed to closely reflect the sort of thinking employees and executives are required to perform in today's fast-paced business environments. The exam assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing abilities, intentionally focusing on skills that have been developed and strengthened over a long period of time and can be applied to vastly different jobs and positions. GRE scores range between 130 to 170 in the verbal and quantitative sections of the exam, and the writing portion is scored on a scale ranging from 0 to 6 using half-point increments. In order to be competitive for the highest-ranking graduate programs, it is imperative to do well on the GRE. An average total GRE score is around 300, but for those seeking admission to the world's best graduate, business, or law programs, scores will need to be far above average. A score of 318 at the 75th percentile is considered "good," whereas a score of 329 at the 90th percentile is considered "excellent." At Manhattan Review, we can help you obtain those excellent scores and take the next step in your academic and/or professional life.

I wanted to thank you for helping me with the GRE prep and let you know that your teaching tactics worked! I took the exam yesterday and got an 800 on the math, 570 on the verbal and who knows about the writing but hopefully it's not below a 4! The verbal is tricky with those silly words but I am happy with my score and ready to walk away from this ETS madness. Thanks again and all the best!

Meet a Calgary GRE Tutor: Tanner G.
Tanner G. grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and spent his childhood exploring his passion for science. "I was always printing out experiments I found online and then doing my best to recreate them in the kitchen," he shares. "It drove my mom crazy, but even when we were cleaning up something that hadn't turned out right, she'd say, ‘Well, now you know more one way that won't work." Tanner's mom was likely thrilled when he shifted his experiments to the science lab at his high school, and Tanner eagerly became involved in every science-related club or extracurricular organization he could find. He won his school's Science Fair as a freshman and co-hosted a podcast where he and his friends discussed popular science fiction books and movies, debating the plausibility of the real or fictional science. "I was really drawn to chemistry," shares Tanner, "probably because I loved combining things and seeing what kind of a reaction I got." During his junior year, Tanner began volunteering as a peer tutor at his school, helping others who didn't find classes like physics, biology, or calculus as easy as he did. Tanner performed exceptionally well on the ACT and, combined with his high grades and other impressive accomplishments, he received numerous offers of admission to colleges across the country. Tanner ultimately chose to attend Harvard University, where he pursued an undergraduate degree in chemistry.
During his time at Harvard, Tanner continued to work as a tutor while also taking advantage of internships and volunteer opportunities that allowed him to broaden his knowledge of specific industries. Tanner knew he wanted to continue his education by obtaining a graduate degree, and he worked with a private tutor through Manhattan Review to prepare for the GRE. Tanner treated preparing for the GRE with the same sense of focus and dedication he brought to his other academic endeavors, and his hard work was rewarded with an impressively high score. Tanner was overjoyed to obtain an advanced degree from MIT, and he continued working as a tutor throughout his doctorate program until he accepted a position with a leading biotech company focused on creating sustainable products with less manufacturing waste. The position was located in Calgary, and while he'd never imagined himself living in Canada, Tanner jumped at the chance for a new adventure.
After establishing himself at his new company for a few years, Tanner began to miss working with students preparing for their own academic successes, and when a rare position opened up at the Calgary office of Manhattan Review, he applied and was quickly welcomed to the team. While he continued working as a chemical consultant, he was also delighted to throw himself into helping future graduate students prepare for the GRE. "You don't have to be passionate about science or math like I am to do well on the GRE," he says. "There are tried-and-true ways to obtain a high score, and I'd love to teach them to you!" When Tanner isn't helping future graduate students prepare to ace the GRE, he can be found restoring an antique car, visiting local vineyards, and going rafting on the Kananaskis River.
