By preparing for the GRE at your own pace with a private tutor, you can spend additional time on the parts of the exam you find the most difficult, ultimately resulting in a GRE score in the highest percentile. Our tutors are not only familiar with the GRE, having obtained stellar scores themselves…they are passionate educators who are exceptionally skilled at teaching and dedicated to helping you achieve your own success on this test. Our personable and experienced test prep professionals each created their own unique path to success and are eager to help you do the same. While some instructors are local to the Cambridge area, others relocated here for professional and/or personal reasons and are committed to making a difference in the lives of those they work with.
The GRE General Test is designed to closely reflect the sort of thinking employees and executives are required to perform in today's fast-paced business environments. The exam assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing abilities, intentionally focusing on skills that have been developed and strengthened over a long period of time and can be applied to vastly different jobs and positions. GRE scores range between 130 to 170 in the verbal and quantitative sections of the exam, and the writing portion is scored on a scale ranging from 0 to 6 using half-point increments. In order to be competitive for the highest-ranking graduate programs, it is imperative to do well on the GRE. An average total GRE score is around 300, but for those seeking admission to the world's best graduate, business, or law programs, scores will need to be far above average. A score of 318 at the 75th percentile is considered "good," whereas a score of 329 at the 90th percentile is considered "excellent." At Manhattan Review, we can help you obtain those excellent scores and take the next step in your academic and/or professional life.
We are proud to offer private tutoring for those just getting started on their academic journeys, as well as for those who are already established in a profession and seeking a pay raise, promotion, or simply to take their career to the next level. I would like to let you know that I took the GRE on Monday, December 6th and earned a score of 1200 (600 verbal, 600 quantitative). I think that I did very well on the essay portion of the test as well but won't receive those scores in the mail for a couple weeks or so. I would like to thank my instructor (George S.) and Manhattan Review for helping me to increase my score so much (I got a 1050 the first time I took the GRE in 2002) Thank you very much.

Meet a Cambridge GRE Tutor: Lance J.
Lance J. grew up in Boise, Idaho, before moving to Cambridge when his mother was offered a position as a principal at a local private high school. While Lance wasn't initially excited about moving, his parents reminded him he could go anywhere he wanted for college in just a few years, even back to Boise. "I think back to that conversation and now I just laugh," recalls Lance. "I had no idea how much I'd end up loving Cambridge, but I had to figure it out for myself." An avid baseball player, Lance soon made the team at his new school, helping him meet classmates who quickly became friends. He remembers being excited to live in a state with a professional baseball team and bought a Red Sox baseball cap within a week of moving to Cambridge. When he wasn't spending time with friends or playing baseball, Lance could often be founding tinkering with things in the garage, fixing broken appliances and creating tiny machines "that didn't really serve a purpose, other than they were fun to make," he shares.
Lance's love of building things no one had ever seen before led him to study engineering at Tufts University in nearby Boston. In order to help offset expenses during his time there, he became a part-time tutor and discovered how much he enjoyed helping his fellow undergrads. "Math and science and especially geometry make so much sense to me, but not everyone feels that way, so it made me feel really good to help others be more prepared and less anxious about tests or projects," he says. When Lance chose to pursue a master's degree in engineering, he decided against returning to Boise and instead focused on programs closer to his family. "The Boston area has some of the best engineering programs in the world, but they're also some of the most competitive," he notes. "I knew I would need all the help I could get in order to be accepted by one of those schools."
Lance worked with a private tutor through Manhattan Review to prepare for the GRE. He also moved back home and completed various internships with engineering companies in the area, learning as much as he could through first-hand experience and also making connections with professionals who admired his dedication and were more than willing to write impressive letters of recommendation for him. When it came time to take the GRE, Lance performed exceptionally well and was offered admission to Harvard University, his first-choice school. After graduating, Lance accepted a position with an engineering firm he'd interned at, but he also continued tutoring students in the evenings, determined to continue giving back and helping others achieve their own personal and professional dreams. Lance joined Manhattan Review in 2017 and has been a great asset to the team ever since. When he isn't helping students master the GRE, Lance can be found playing on a local baseball team, coaching his niece's softball team, and cheering on his beloved Red Sox with his family.
