Now, more than ever, a high GMAT score is incredibly important, and the highest scores unquestionably open doors for students and professionals looking to take their success to the next level. The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the organization responsible for the administration of the GMAT, tracks and reports statistical information about test-takers, studying them as a whole while also dividing them into subgroups. Total GMAT scores range from 200 to 800, and roughly two-thirds of test-takers will score between 400 and 600. According to the available statistics, the mean GMAT total score for all test-takers is 574. Top business programs around the world require very high GMAT scores. For example, the University of Texas at Austin, repeatedly ranked as one of the best business schools in the world, regularly has an incoming first-year class with average GMAT scores falling in the range of 650-740. GMAT Prep Course Honolulu - Photo of Student Peng

This is just to let you know how I did in my GMAT. I got 710 overall, with my essays collectively graded at 5.5. I was quite pleased with my result. Please pass on my thanks to our instructor. I thought he was an excellent tutor and I enjoyed his approach to teaching the (invariably dry) subject matter.

Meet a Honolulu GMAT Tutor: Byron O.

Byron O. was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and never imagined living anywhere other than the Pacific Northwest. His aunt lived in Honolulu and he and his parents took frequent trips to visit her, which Byron loved "because sunshine can be hard to come by some days in Seattle." Byron shares that he has always enjoyed working with numbers, and he was thrilled to graduate with a degree in finance from the University of Washington, a respected public research university. Knowing he desired a successful career in business, Byron didn't want to leave anything up to chance when it came to preparing for the GMAT, and he enrolled in a classroom-style group prep course to ensure he was as prepared as possible. Byron prepared diligently for the GMAT with his group, in addition to reading books and studying on his own, and his dedication was rewarded when he scored in the 98th percentile of test-takers. His impressive score earned him offers of admission to numerous prestigious MBA programs around the United States, and even though it meant leaving the Pacific Northwest, Byron chose to obtain his MBA at the highly competitive University of Pennsylvania.

During his graduate program, Byron began taking on side work as a tutor, "mostly because word got out that I was good with numbers and also good at explaining things," he laughs. "What surprised me was how much I enjoyed working with other students…I hadn't ever considered holding any type of a teaching position, because I didn't think I had anything worthwhile to share, but I came to love working with people on projects and helping them perform better than they could on their own." Byron graduated with distinction and was offered a variety of exciting positions with both local and international companies, but he chose to join a firm in Honolulu, which he recalled fondly from all his family vacations. He enjoyed working for a well-known investment firm for more than a decade, but after a while, he began to search for additional ways to make a difference in the world on a smaller, more personal, scale. Over the next two years, in addition working fulltime, Byron completed a remote program and obtained a master's degree in teaching from the University of Southern California, determined to help others enjoy the success he had earned. When Manhattan Review opened an office in Honolulu, Byron immediately reached out about the possibility of helping students prepare for the GMAT.

We were thrilled to welcome someone with Byron's breadth of knowledge on board, and he was overjoyed to share his experiences with future corporate leaders. Byron's GMAT prep courses fill up almost as fast as they're announced, and there is regularly a wait list to work with him. Clients consistently praise Byron's impressive background, as well as his local area connections, but more than anything, they note how grateful they are for his unflagging support and belief in their abilities. Byron's students have gone on to achieve their own impressive individual successes, and he never tires of hearing from them, always willing to offer a friendly suggestion or word of congratulations. When Byron isn't guiding future MBAs to corporate success, he can be found having dinner with his aunt, hiking the Makapu'u Point Lighthouse trail, and volunteering at a local animal shelter.
