Approximately 9,000 educational institutions will accept IELTS scores for admission, including about 3,400 in the United States, 350 in Canada, and almost all postsecondary programs in the United Kingdom. There are 1,600 IELTS test centers in 140 countries, and the test is currently available up to four times per month. The IELTS website publishes a list of academic test score requirements for the top 200 universities in the UK, based on Times Higher Education and QS university rankings. The list shows that all of these institutions expect total band scores between 6.0 and 7.5, although some UK universities not on the list will admit students with slightly lower scores. According to IELTS statistics, the highest average total scores on the IELTS academic test were obtained by native speakers of the German, Polish, Greek, and Filipino languages. Although the highest possible score on the band scale is 9, we are not aware of any universities that require scores higher than 7.5.
