Many students do incredibly well learning in classroom-style group settings, enjoying a sense of comradery and using their peers' questions as a springboard for increasing their own knowledge and comprehension. Other students, however, know they do not learn best in the company of others. They worry about holding the group back and feel anxious about slowing down the pace of studying; alternatively, they may experience frustration if they have mastered a particular concept but must wait to move on until others in the group have similarly absorbed the information. If you know you learn best in an environment where you are able to work at your own pace, focusing on the aspects of preparing for the LSAT that are most pertinent to you, without the distractions posed by a group learning format, we encourage you to contact us today to learn more about our private tutoring options. For many students, one-on-one attention is the most useful way to grasp and retain information, and we look forward to creating a customized program of study unique to you and your LSAT needs.

The LSAT is purposefully designed to assess the skills required for the first year of law school. These skills include reading comprehension, reasoning, and writing. LSAT scores fall in a range between 120 to 180, with the median score being approximately 152. A median score, however, will not be enough to secure acceptance to a top-tier law school, and competitive scores generally fall in the 160s to 170s. The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) is the organization responsible for the administration of the LSAT, and they regularly track and report statistical information about those who take the test, analyzing their information as a whole while also dividing test-takers into subgroups. According to the LSAC, among the most respected law schools, successful applicants have an LSAT score in the 170s. In order to be competitive for the highest-ranking law schools, it is necessary to do well on the LSAT. We at Manhattan Review can help you master all sections of the test, improving your reading comprehension and reasoning abilities while also strengthening your critical writing skills.

Meet a Chapel Hill LSAT Tutor: Milo D.
Milo D. has always been fascinated by words and language and can't remember a time when he wasn't carrying a book around with him, eager for any excuse to read and lose himself in a fantasy world. "I read constantly as a kid," he shares, "and I just couldn't believe how so many people could use the same words but create entirely different stories." Milo found himself drawn to the rules of grammar and punctuation in the English language, enjoying the sense of order and predictability they assured. "I liked the idea of there being a standardized way to share information, a format everyone could agree on, even though I also appreciated those authors who broke the rules," Milo says with a grin. In high school, Milo started out as a contributing reporter to his school's online newspaper before working his way up to an editorial position, as well as writing a column about common writing mistakes that quickly became a popular resource among his fellow students. Milo won numerous awards for his own short stories and research essays, and it wasn't long before he helped establish a peer tutoring program specifically for students struggling with English and writing assignments. "I had no idea how much I would enjoy helping others become better writers," Milo admits, "but seeing someone go from an idea to an outline to multiple pages that told a complete story was amazing, and I knew I wanted a career that somehow involved words."
Milo grew up in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and thanks to his hard work and a very impressive SAT score, he was accepted to the University of Alabama where he double majored in English and education. During an extra-credit seminar his sophomore year, Milo had the chance to hear from a visiting professor who also happened to be a lawyer specializing in mergers, acquisitions, and contract negotiation. Milo was thrilled to learn there was a job that revered words as much as he did, and "…that's when I knew I wanted to be a lawyer. Not the kind you see on tv, arguing a case in front of a jury, but the kind who works behind the scenes and makes things run smoothly, at least when it involves written things." Milo had continued working as a tutor in his university's learning lab, but in order to prepare for the LSAT, he shifted to being tutored himself, working with a private tutor both in-person and online to prepare for the exam. "I knew I needed help mastering the most effective test-taking strategies," explains Milo, "and I also wanted to learn how to pace myself over such an important test." Milo's diligence and focus were rewarded with an exceptionally high LSAT score that allowed him to choose the best law program for his goals and needs. Milo ultimately chose to attend Columbia University, respected around the world for their contracts and commercial law program. While it was a big change from Alabama, Milo was excited to move to New York and experience a different part of the United States.
After graduating from Columbia, Milo received numerous offers of employment from law firms around the world, and he ultimately accepted a position with a firm in the Raleigh area that specialized in contract law between academic research institutions. Milo settled into his new position and did quite well for himself, but after a few years, he began to miss the sense of personal fulfillment that he'd experienced while tutoring others. While he took advantage of every opportunity to mentor new hires, he missed working directly with students. With years of formal and informal tutoring experience behind him, Milo was ecstatic when he learned about Manhattan Review's office in Chapel Hill, and he was soon welcomed to the team. Milo's students appreciate his real-world experience, as well as his local connections, almost as much as they appreciate his sense of humor and ability to maintain sight of the bigger picture without losing any details. When Milo isn't guiding future lawyers to their own legal success, he can be found reading to elementary school students as part of a local after-school volunteer program, coaching his son's swim team, and going back to visit family in Alabama.
