The most important factor in admission in an undergraduate or graduate program in university is your diploma results, but a good ACT score can definitely help the commission in their decision. An average score on the ACT exam is 20.8 to 36, which is the maximum. Any result higher than this range increases your chances for acceptance in a better school. A score of 24 puts you in 75th percentile of students taking the test, and any score above 28 will then be in the 90th percentile. It is important to know your target according the school requirements (or if the school even has any), and we urge our students to check the "common data set" of previous students, so they have an idea. For example, a score of 29 is more than enough to enter some selective schools like Ohio University, where the average score is 24, but is not enough to enter some of the top 20 elite universities like Harvard, where the expected score will be around 32.

Stacy T., born and raised in Rio De Janeiro, finished her high school education in the city. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies and a Master's degree in Journalism from Georgetown University.
