Meet a Cincinnati TOEFL Tutor: Claudine H.
Claudine received her diploma from Akron University with a B.A. in Spanish and International Economics. During this time, she picked up quite a few tutoring jobs. Maybe it was due to her innate ability to grasp language concepts that made tutoring such a clear role for her. Or perhaps it was her contagious smile and sound teaching methods. Either way, during her undergraduate program, Claudine even traveled overseas to help others learn English as a second language.
She ended up in Spain where she was a live-in tutor for a family with two high school boys. Claudine helped them bring home all A's and their parent's were delighted! She credits her love of learning the intricacies of foreign languages for each successful tutoring encounter. For example, Claudine understands that by being fluent in French and Spanish, and knowing that all Romance languages are derived from Latin, she can 'guess' the meanings of countless English-language derivatives. Knowing this, Claudine is able to expand her vocabulary in several languages and communicate effectively with her students.
Apart from tutoring, Claudine happens to be a serious movie buff; mainly in foreign films where she lists "Amelie" and "The Motorcycle Diaries" as her two top favorites. She dreams of continuing her travels across Europe and her first stop would be Spain to check in on her first international pupils. Following this stop, she would like visit Italy, France, Germany and a host of other European countries. Claudine enjoys the weather changes in Cincinnati and especially all the unique history of the Irish and German immigrants who first settled there. In fact, she is currently working on a non-fiction book called, 'Zinzinnati, Cincy and the Queen City: Past, Present & Future.'
