Since 1999, Manhattan Review has been working with students preparing to enter elite programs. Early on, we specialized in working with international students, and our approach continues to keep English language learners in mind. We take pride in finding the most qualified tutors in Oakland to work with our clients on achieving their English proficiency goals. Our coaches implement the TOEFL learning plans which utilize the industry's most comprehensive course material and up-to-date pedagogical methodologies. Whether you are interested in learning in a group setting or working one-on-one with one of our mentors, we are sure to find a plan that fits your learning style and schedule. For more information on course options, course scheduling, and ancillary services, contact Manhattan Review in Oakland today.
One of the first things we will tell our clients at Manhattan Review is that it is imperative to learn the TOEFL requirements held at the institution of their choice. Not only should you know the minimum requirement, but you should also familiarize yourself with the average TOEFL score of incoming students. The university will have a standard; however, the most elite programs have students surpassing that standard. If you want to be amongst the students attending certain programs, your goal should depend on surpassing the average incoming score. For example, the University of California at Berkeley requires a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 90; however, the average student admitted to Berkeley earned a 109. Once we know the target you are working for, you will take a diagnostic test so that we can determine your learning plan. From there you will be placed in a course or matched up with a compatible tutor who will work with you to put your plan in action. Don't leave your admission in the balance – add security to your application by achieving a high score on the TOEFL.
We love hearing success stories from our former students, and at Manhattan Review, this is not a rare occurrence! Our TOEFL services have helped native speakers of a variety of languages to fulfill and surpass requirements to earn admission to top schools such as the University of California at Berkeley, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, the California Institute of Technology, the University of Virginia, the University of Michigan, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Columbia, Washington University in St. Louis, Georgetown, Emory, the University of Texas, the University of California at Los Angeles, and others too numerous to list. Many companies also require a high level of English proficiency, and our past students have been able to secure careers at Fortune 500 companies such as Clorox, Netflix, Wells Fargo, Disney and other prominent companies in Oakland, including Pandora, Kaiser Permanente, and in the shipping industry. We are looking forward to you following in the footsteps of our prominent former test prep students.

Meet an Oakland TOEFL Tutor: Sarah B.
Sarah B. was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She attended the University of Washington for undergrad and went on to Cal Tech to earn her masters in computer sciences. She spent four years living and working in Hong Kong before returning to the west coast to work in Oakland. While living abroad, Sarah met many people who wanted her help with their English skills, and she decided to start tutoring some friends and acquaintances.
Manhattan Review was pleased to add her to the Oakland team in 2016 where she tutors students for the TOEFL and IELTS. Her students appreciate that she has both native English language skills and the empathy for her international students that comes from having lived abroad. When Sarah isn't working as a web developer or with her students, she enjoys to visit wine country and takes sewing classes.
